When you’re not watching TV, the best movies are on the big screen
In the 1970s, when Hollywood was still a small place, one of the best films of the decade was “The Magnificent Seven.”
That movie was based on the true story of a woman who became the wife of a millionaire.
“That’s a very, very important movie, and I’ve heard a lot of people say, ‘Well, you’re the wife,'” says the actress Meryl Streep.
“It’s a wonderful movie.
But it’s also about a woman, and it’s not about a man.
It’s a story about the power of love.
And the power to love the most that is in your life, to love someone unconditionally, and then, when the time comes, to do it.”
The Magnificent 7 has been nominated for 13 Academy Awards, but the best picture Oscar, for Streep’s film “Lincoln,” has not been won yet.
She’s not alone.
In recent years, many films starring women have failed to win Oscars, including “American Sniper” and “Wonder Wheel.”
But the reason why women are so few in the Oscar conversation is partly due to a lack of interest in their work.
“I think that the vast majority of female directors are working and are doing great things,” says Streep, who was born and raised in Hollywood.
“And they’re just not being recognized for that.
So it’s frustrating.
I think that it’s partly because women don’t have that connection that we do with other women, and that is something that is really, really important.”
And that connection has to do with the fact that most of the work is often made for a small budget.
For the film “The Blind Side,” which starred Charlize Theron and was nominated for best picture in 2015, director Luc Besson made $10 million from its $2 million budget.
That is more than half the budgets of many other films nominated for this year’s Oscars.
And that makes it all the more disappointing that women like Theron, who has been compared to director Spike Lee, and Besson are struggling to make a living at the movies.
“The way we think about it is that, you know, what is the cost to make this movie?
Is it worth it?
You know, the director can make whatever he wants,” says Theron.
“If he’s making this for a million dollars, then why does he want to make it for a thousand?
And the way that we look at it, is that we’re not making the movie that’s worth it.
“So I think it’s just the reality of it. “
We’re talking more about this issue of gender equality and all the other things that women are facing and how important they are, and not just in this industry, but in society as a whole,” she adds.
“So I think it’s just the reality of it.
I’m not really concerned with women making less money than men, because that’s just not true.
I have a great family.
I love my kids.
But what I am concerned about is making sure that we are honoring our heroes.
And there are plenty of movies that do that.”
Streep is now the executive producer of the documentary “The Female Story,” which will be premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival in February.
And in addition to her career, she is also the author of “A Woman in Hollywood,” which is a memoir about how she got her start in the industry.
“When I was a kid, I was watching movies on the computer and watching the women and watching how they got it.
That’s how I got my start in this business.
I started with a passion and I went on to make my career,” Streep says.
“Because I love the industry, I love all the stories, and if there are any, I want to share it with as many people as possible.
And my goal is to make as many women happy and as many men happy.”
And for that to happen, Streep believes that women have to make their own decisions.
“You know, women are going to make the best choices for themselves and they’re going to find their own way to succeed,” she says.
That may not be easy, but Streep isn’t going to let it stop her from making the best decisions she can for her career.
“What I want is for the industry to be the most empowering place where I can work,” she tells CBS News.
“There’s no better place than at home with my family, and there’s no more empowering place than home with family.
And so that’s why I’m making this film, because I want that to be a place where women can be the best at what they do.
I want the best and brightest, and hopefully they can make some money as well.
I really hope that they do.”
Streeps will be talking more on “CBS This Morning” on Sunday at
